How many more ways do we really need to keep in touch? I already routinely run three IM clients just to communicate with friends / colleagues. Is another IM system really helping me? It’s overload.
Ok yes — been there done that. The problem with this approach is that you don’t get to use any of the platform-specific feautes (like audio or video for instance). All IM is not created equal.

You could always run a Jabber client like Psi.
