Mobile Web Best Practices Working Group in the News

The W3C Mobile Web Best Practices working group that I’m chairing got a nice write-up in the Herald Tribune! Especially happy about this because the IHT is kind of “my” newspaper — I read it every day on my way to work.

Back in Black

So in May when I went over to Japan, I got myself a new-fangled 3G phone. Because I don’t like to carry more than one device on my person, since then the Blackberry has taken a back seat. In fact, it has mostly sat in my bag with its battery drained. OK — the other [...]

I’m famous!

Hey — I was quoted in the press yesterday! I’ll treasure this moment. Oh yes.

New Nokia Browser

I had the pleasure to take a test drive of Nokia’s new browser yesterday, while speaking at their XML conference. I just have to say — it’s good. If this technology gets into enough hands, it could really open up use of “The Web” from Mobile. The “back button” functionality is especially good — it [...]

When is a Duck also a Fish?

Serious about the Mobile Web

I suppose if I were really serious about the “Mobile Web,” I would start by making this site mobile friendly. Unfortunately, I tried to access it with my lovely new Sony Ericsson V800 and found it completely mobile non-friendly. I should, in theory, be able to rectify this using CSS media queries. More soon.

Mobile Web in Japan

Some anecdotal evidence of the shape of the Mobile Web in Japan: An advertisement with multiple URLs on it, each for access over a different carrier Every content provider has to code their service or application multiple times for different carriers (XHTML-MP, XHTML-Basic, CHTML, MML, etc…) Everyone is walking around using their mobile phone (no [...]

So Tokyo

So here I am in Tokyo — for WWW2005 conference and the launch of the Mobile Web Initiative. My initial impression: Tokyo is like New York on steroids. More soon.

The Mobile Web

So last week, I co-chaired a W3C workshop on the “Mobile Web.” It was really challenging bringing such a diverse group of companies together for this, but in the end it was a great success. Read the paper I wrote for Vodafone and see what I had to say about this, and read the papers [...]
